The center is better considered as a museum dedicated to preserving the history of this corner of Georgia. Its artifacts and historic buildings date back 11,000 years and include an 18th-century log cabin that was once the home of White Path, an important leader of the Cherokee Nation. Next to it is a historic forge and inside there is an exhibition called Land of Promise, which tells the story of the people of this area from its early days to the present day. There is also a Folk Art Gallery and the Northeast Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

Northeast Georgia History Center is dedicated to preserving and sharing our regional history and is our community’s pathway to history education. Through our educational programs, community events, exhibits and historic structures, we strive to be a leading resource for promoting understanding of local, state and national history. We offer programs on both local and national history through living history interpretation, historical figures, guided tours and demonstrations. Webcasts use video conferencing like Zoom to provide your students with a fun and interactive learning experience. During the webcast, your students can meet characters like Benjamin Franklin, Frederick Douglass, Juliette Gordon Low, World War II “Rosie” and more! We also offer online classes with a historian who can answer your students’ questions about the topics covered in class. The suitcases are like a “museum in a box” filled with artifacts, primary sources, and GSE-based lesson plans to provide students with hands-on experience. Suitcases can be rented for $25 per week.
